Shubman Gill to be rested? India vice captain to undergo workload management for IND vs BAN T20Is

India vice-captain Shubman Gill likely to be rested for IND vs BAN T20Is as Team India's major focus lies on Test cricket

Following the IND vs BAN Test series, the workload management setup will be in progress. And reports claim that India Cricket Team vice captain Shubman Gill is slated to be rested. The young star batter won’t be a part of the three match T20I series against Bangladesh. The BCCI Selection Committee want to keep Shubman Gill fresh for the upcoming IND vs NZ Test series.

After the two Test matches, India will take Bangladesh for a three match T20I series. Shubman Gill is now one of the main batters in India’s top order in red ball cricket. This means the team wants to keep him fresh when the Kiwis visit India next month.

“Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T20Is will be played on October 7 (Gwalior), 10 (Delhi) and 13 (Hyderabad). Now first Test vs New Zealand starts October 16. So with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break,” a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is, Shubman Gill was tipped to retain the top opening spot alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the shortest format of the game. But it is apparent that for Team India that T20Is are not the priority. Instead, it is the World Test Championship which is the main focus for the team.

Along with Test, ODIs is also important given that India will take part in the ICC Champions Trophy early next year. It remains to be seen as to which other players too fall under workload management for the IND vs BAN T20I series.
