The groundsmen in the Greater Noida Sports Complex stadium made a desperate attempt to get the AFG vs NZ Test started as delay continued on Day 2. As seen by InsideSport, the ground staff were seen digging the mid-wicket area and filling it with dry grass in order to get rid of the wet spot. It was the same area that was a cause for concern on Day 1, something that the umpires repeatedly pointed out during their inspections on Day 1.

The groundsmen first dug a pit in the mid-wicket area that was also referred to as the ‘pain spot’ on the outfield. They were then seen filling the pit with dry grass collected from the nets. This process has led to a further delay to the start of the game, with the toss yet to happen even as the game has headed into Day 2.

While the toss was supposed to take place at 9 AM, there was a delay due to wet outfield owing to rain in the previous night. This is a continuation of what happened on Day 1 after the play was called off as the outfield was unfit for play. Despite multiple inspections and delays, the ground staff could not get the pitch ready on time. While a pitch inspection is scheduled for 12 PM on Day 2, it is highly doubtful that the game will begin anytime soon.
