EXCLUSIVE: ‘Want to support my team’ claims Jeakson Singh with eyes on lifting Intercontinental Cup

Ahead of India vs Syria clash in Intercontinental Cup, India Football Team midfielder Jeakson Singh ready to support his team in any way

It is now for never for the Indian Football Team. The last hurdle before lifting the Intercontinental Trophy for the Blue Tigers is beating Syria. And before this mega India vs Syria encounter, ace midfielder Jeakson Singh is ready and up for the challenge. Reflecting back on himself and his gameplay, the East Bengal defensive midfielder told InsideSport exclusively that he is keen to improve in any way possible to help his side.

Under the new head coach, i.e. Manolo Marquez, India was held to a goalless draw by Mauritius. And then Syria went on to beat the African side 2-0 in their next game. This means a draw won’t make the cut. For India to lift the trophy, India will have to beat the Eagles of Qasioun in their title decider.

Ready to support the team – claims Jeakson

Jeakson Singh has been one of the mainstays in the Indian Football Team over the past couple of years. And now more than ever, it will be his duty to hold the fort along with Apuia at the heart of the midfield. Now, the determined 23-year-old midfielder is now keen to support his team in all ways possible.

“There’s always a lot of things where each player can improve in many ways. And for me, you know, I think I wanted to support the team as much as possible way. While defending, I wanted to support my team to get clean sheets and all. While attacking, I wanted to give support, and give good passes so that we can score forward,” said Jeakson Singh exclusively to InsideSport.

India will be expecting a tough and physical battle when they take on Syria. This is mainly owing to Syria being a better team physically on paper. And Jeakson knows that the job won’t be easy. In fact, it will be a tough job for India as claimed by head coach Manolo Marquez in the pre-match presser.

“I feel personally, I have a good physique. I would like to use more of that and improve in many things. But I would just say maybe providing more good passes forward and protecting the team from behind. That’s all I think as a midfielder I need to work on. There are also other things I can work on but I think this is the main focus. Right now I’m thinking to improve as much as possibly I can,” Jeakson concluded.
