With the passage of time, sports have also started to adopt to the modern ways. Reports claim that the World Boxing president Boris van der Vorst is keen on introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in it’s scoring system. The World Boxing chief believes that the usage of AI will improve transparency in the scoring system. The move now seems imminent after it has received it’s green signal from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Since ages the normal scoring system has been criticised for being too complex. Furthermore, this scoring system has undergone massive controversies. The latest controversy came in the Paris Olympics 2024 when India boxer Nishant Dev lost in the quarterfinals of the 71kg bout.
And now the World Boxing president Boris van der Vorst at the 44th Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly has proposed the usage of AI in using it in the scoring system.
“We are exploring modern technology like AI to make judging more objective. There are promising projects underway to address the trust deficit in the system,” said Boris van der Vorst to PTI.
Previously, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had been in fights with the International Boxing Association (IBA). The latter was then banned by the apex body.
