Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia gets death threat, files police complaint

Haryana wrestler Bajrang Punia received a death threat via WhatsApp. He has lodged a complaint with the police.

Haryana wrestler and Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia has reportedly received death threats just two days after joining the Indian political party, Congress. The threat was conveyed through a WhatsApp message from a foreign number, warning him of dire consequences if he continues with Congress. The message warns Bajrang to leave the Congress, stating that it would be dangerous for both him and his family if he does not comply.

The WhatsApp message sent to Bajrang Punia reads: “Leave Congress, or it won’t be good for you and your family. This is our last message. Before the elections, we will show you who we are. Complain wherever you want, this is our first and last warning.”

Bajrang lodges complaint with Police

Bajrang Punia has lodged a formal complaint at the Bahalgarh police station in Sonipat regarding the threat. According to Sonipat Police spokesperson ASI Ravindra, they have received Bajrang’s complaint, in which he has explained that the threat came from an unknown foreign number. The matter is currently under investigation.

Chief Minister’s response

In response to the incident, Haryana CM Naib Saini stated that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and the guilty parties will not be spared. Authorities are taking the threat seriously and are working to ensure Bajrang’s safety.
