Indian Super League (ISL) club Kerala Blasters recently turned down the opportunity to sign former Italy international and Manchester City player Mario Balotelli, leaving him embarrassed.
According to The Times of India, Kerala Blasters decided to not sign Balotelli due to concerns over his status and disciplinary record. The 34-year-old is currently a free agent after his second stint with Turkish club Adana Demirspor. The striker with 36 caps for Italy remains without a club as he continues to seek a new team.
Balotelli’s football career
Balotelli has had a varied career, including notable spells with Manchester City (2010-2013) and Liverpool. He has also played for prestigious clubs like Inter Milan, AC Milan, Nice, and Marseille in france.
Controversial incidents ruined his career
Throughout his career, Balotelli has been involved in several controversial incidents. Earlier this year, he was seen lighting a small firework in the Demirspor dressing room. In 2011, while at Manchester City, his £3 million rented Cheshire mansion caught fire due to fireworks set off by a friend. Balotelli escaped unharmed and scored against Manchester United just hours later, famously revealing his ‘Why always me?’ t-shirt.
Notable off-field moments
Shortly after joining City in 2010, Balotelli crashed his car on the way to training, carrying £5,000 in cash. When asked about the money, he simply replied,”Because I am rich.”
