Pakistan players to undergo fresh round of ‘rigorous’ fitness tests yet again after BAN defeat

After facing a historic series defeat against Bangladesh, Pakistan players are all set to undergo a fresh round of fitness tests from September 7

Pakistan cricket team stars will soon be subjected to a fresh round of fitness tests, marking yet another evaluation in 2024. The tests will determine who will get the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) central contract for the upcoming year. After an Army training camp in Kakul and a round of fitness tests before the T20 World Cup, a fresh set to fitness tests awaits Pakistan.

Pakistan stars to undergo fresh fitness tests

As per Cricket Pakistan, the fitness assessments will bein from September 7 onwards in Lahore. Members of the Test squad and some of the centrally contracted cricketers will take up these tests. The report claims that the fresh round of fitness assessment has left the players anxious.

In a desperate effort to improve the quality of cricket, the PCB has decided to set the passing benchmark at 60% instead of the globally accepted 50% criterion. The assessment will include a variety of exercises such as bench press, skinfold measurements, bench pull, squat, and jump tests.

In addition to these, players will be required to complete a 2-kilometer trial run within 8 minutes and six sets of three sprints with a 30-second break between each set. The PCB will announce the fresh list of central contracts based on the results of these tests.

Pakistan’s chances of making it to WTC final

Pakistan still stand a chance to make it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final in Lord’s in June 2025 despite a historic series defeat to Bangladesh. But that’s a tall task at hand. Masood and co. need to win majority of their reminder of seven matches in order to have any hopes of making it to the final. With that being said, Pakistan also have a little over a month to get things in line before England’s tour. From captaincy to team unity, Pakistan have multiple issues at hand that need to be addressed immediately.
