After a disappointing outing at the World Cup Qualifiers, the Indian football team is all set to participate in the Intercontinental Cup. The team will play against Syria and Mauritius in the tournament. The matches will be held at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad from 3rd to 9th September 2024.
Only three countries are part of this prestigious cup: India, Syria, and Mauritius, who are placed in Group 1. The Intercontinental Cup will serve as a preparatory tournament for India ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
India without Chhetri
This will be the first time in a long while that the Indian team will compete without the legendary Sunil Chhetri, who retired in June this year.
New coach, new vibes
The Indian team will also have a new coach. Croatian Igor Stimac has been replaced by Manolo Marquez. The Spanish coach was previously associated with the ISL sides FC Goa and Hyderabad FC.
