India’s high jumper Nishad Kumar added another medal to India’s tally after winning silver at the Paris Paralympics. The high jumper from Himachal Pradesh clinched the silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event. He made his best jump of 2.04m, which is also his season best. Nishad tried to touch the 2.08m mark but failed in all three attempts.
Roderick Townsend from the USA assured the gold medal with the best jump of 2.16m which equals the world record set by him in 2023.
Only two athletes crossed 2.0 m
Nishad and Roderick were the only athletes to clear the 2.00m mark, setting the stage for a gold medal battle with their season-best jumps. Both missed their first attempts at 2.08m, but the American star managed to clear it on his second try, securing the gold. Nishad, giving his best performance of 2024, also failed on his second attempt at 2.08m and had to settle for the silver medal.
Ram Pal on 7th position
Another Indian in the event, Ram Pal, failed to find success at the Paris Paralympics. He finished in 7th place with his best jump of 1.95m, equalling his personal best.
