Rubina Francis has won third bronze medal for India in the Paris Paralympics 2024. She has clinched the medal in the women’s air pistol SH1 event final on Saturday.
Francis finished with a total score of 211.1 in round 6 before exiting the competition. Iran’s Sareh Javanmardi claimed the gold medal with a total score of 236.8. Rubina made history by becoming India’s first-ever pistol shooter to win a medal at the Paralympics.
Who is Rubina Francis?
Rubina Francis is a renowned Para Shooter from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, who has overcome great obstacles to become the best in her sport. Rubina was born into a lower-middle class family with addition to her leg problems. Due to financial limitations, her father, mechanic Simon Francis, found it difficult to encourage her developing love of shooting.
Inspired by her enthusiasm for Olympic athlete Gagan Narang, Rubina started her shooting journey in 2015. Her perseverance and her father’s unwavering efforts brought her to Pune’s Gun for Glory Academy in 2017, despite the financial obstacles.
