Hockey India’s big move: Bihar’s Rajgir is set to host 8th Women’s Asian Champions Trophy

The 8th Women's Asian Champions Trophy will be held in Rajgir, Bihar, from 11th to 20th November 2024, featuring top Asian hockey teams.

Hockey India is set to host the prestigious Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in the historic city of Rajgir, Bihar, known for its sacred sites and hot springs. The event will be held from 11th to 20th November 2024 at the newly-developed Rajgir Hockey Stadium, in collaboration with the Bihar Government.

Last year, the tournament was successfully hosted by Hockey Jharkhand in Ranchi, where India emerged as the champions. This year, along with defending champions India, top teams like China (the reigning Olympic silver medalists), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand are expected to compete in the tournament.

Bihar CM’s warm welcome

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Shri Nitish Kumar, expressed his joy in hosting the event, saying, “I am very happy that Bihar is hosting the 8th Women’s Asian Champions Trophy. We warmly welcome all the international teams. We hope the teams, officials, and fans will enjoy the hospitality of our people, and we are committed to making this event a grand success.”

Asian Hockey Federation president’s support

Dato Fumio Ogura, President of the Asian Hockey Federation, expressed his delight in choosing India as the host nation. He stated, “I am thrilled to announce that the 8th Women’s Asian Champions Trophy will be held in India. I thank Hockey India for taking up the responsibility to host this event again after the successful Men’s and Women’s Asian Champions Trophy last year. I am confident that the tournament in Rajgir, Bihar, will be as successful as the previous edition in Ranchi.”

Hockey India’s excitement and gratitude

Dr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, expressed his gratitude towards the Bihar Government, saying, “Hockey India is excited to host the prestigious Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in Bihar. This is a historic moment for hockey, as it’s the first time an international hockey tournament is being held in Bihar. We are thankful to the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) and the Bihar Government for this incredible opportunity and support.”

Inspiring the next generation of players

Shri Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “It is a proud moment for Indian Women’s Hockey to host the Asian Champions Trophy back-to-back. We hosted a memorable event in Ranchi last year, and we will ensure a grand event in Bihar as well. Hockey India is dedicated to developing women’s hockey across the country, and bringing this event to Bihar will inspire children to take up the sport. We eagerly look forward to welcoming all the international teams and hockey fans to Bihar.”
