BCCI secretary Jay Shah has now received the official stamp as the ICC chairman and is set to replace New Zealand’s Greg Barclay. Jay Shah, who did an extraordinary job for the BCCI as secretary, implemented significant changes, including bringing equal match fees and enhancing the IPL’s financial value to rival that of the NFL. Now, all eyes are on his leadership at the ICC. It is noteworthy that he will be the youngest ICC chairman to assume office at the age of 35.
When will Jay Shah begin his tenure as ICC Chairman?
As per the latest reports, he is set to join on December 1, 2024, following the conclusion of the current ICC chairman Greg Barclay’s contract in November. Shah will then fully assume the role of chairman.
Since Shah is currently serving as the secretary of the BCCI, a role set to end in October 2025, he was first elected as BCCI secretary in October 2019 and became the first person to be re-elected unopposed in October 2022.
Who will replace Jay Shah as BCCI secretary?
As things are now pretty clear with the ICC chairmanship, the question is who will become the BCCI secretary to replace Jay Shah. There are many names being mentioned, including Rohan Jaitley, son of former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and currently the president of the DDCA, and Ashish Shelar, who is the BCCI treasurer and a heavyweight figure in the camp. It will be interesting to see how things unfold with the BCCI after Jay Shah leaves the role.
