After 2 year hiatus, Smriti Mandhana signs pre-draft overseas contract for WBBL to join Adelaide Strikers

After a two year hiatus, Ace Indian batter Smriti Mandhana will be playing in the Women’s Big Bash League 2024. The southpaw became the first Indian to sign a WBBL pre-draft overseas contract. The 28-year old joins Adelaide Strikers who won the previous two editions and will be keen to lift their third title in a row.

The Adelaide outfits will be Mandhana’s fourth side in the WBBL. Previously she had played for Hobart Hurricanes, Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades. The player’s draft is slated to take place on 1st September 2024.

Happy to play in WBBL

“I always look forward to playing in Australia, and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to a team with a history of success like the Strikers. I’m thrilled to continue working with Luke. Our previous experiences together have been so rewarding, and I’m looking forward to building on that,” Smriti Mandhana said.

Mandhana has a great record in the WBBL. She has amassed 784 runs in 38 games with an average of 24.50. Mandhana will have her job pretty easy as she will be working with Luke Williams. In the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Williams serves as a coach for RCB.

“Smriti is an exceptional talent, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Strikers. Her technical skill, experience and strategic insights are a tremendous asset for us. I know firsthand the dedication and energy she brings to the team and on the field. Her expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we drive for success in the upcoming season,” Williams said.
