More agony for Pakistan cricket as ICC docks 6 WTC points, Bangladesh lose 3

Bangladesh scripted history by beating Pakistan for the first time in Tests in Rawalpindi on Sunday, August 25.

If the humiliating 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh was not enough, more agony has come towards Pakistan cricket. The Shan Masood-led side has been found guilty for slow overrate and thus ICC (International Cricket Council) has docked WTC points for Pakistan as well as Bangladesh.

Slow overrate for both PAK & BAN

The hosts, Pakistan, were found to be six overs short of the required over-rate, resulting in a deduction of six crucial WTC points. Meanwhile, visitors Bangladesh, who secured a comprehensive 10-wicket victory, were also penalized for falling three overs short, leading to a loss of three points.

Apart from this, as many as 30 percent of Pakistan’s match fee has also been deducted. While Bangladesh was penalised 15%. Captains Shan Masood and Najmul Hossain Shanto pleaded guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions, avoiding formal hearings.

Updated WTC points table

The penalties have had a direct impact on both teams’ positions in the WTC standings. Pakistan remains in the eighth spot, while Bangladesh drops to seventh, falling behind South Africa due to the sanction. Pakistan’s previous points were at 22 and have now dropped to just 16. Meanwhile, Bangladesh points tally is now at 21.

Shakib Al Hasan fined!

In another incident during the first Test, Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10% of his match fee and a demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Shakib was found guilty of throwing the ball at Mohammad Rizwan in the 33rd over of the second innings after the latter had backed away.

Shakib’s actions were deemed a violation of Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits throwing a ball at a player or anyone else in an inappropriate manner.
