IPL 2025 auction rules
The BCCI will announce the retention rules for the IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled to take place at the end of the year. And the rules are expected to come into the spotlight not far from now, specifically by the end of August, according to Cricbuzz. There is a growing expectation that the BCCI will finalize the retention rules by the end of this month. This means IPL franchises can build their teams more smoothly, with six players confirmed in the bank, as franchises will be allowed to retain up to four players.
What are the IPL retention rules?
The IPL retention policy is currently the only topic of discussion, primarily due to MS Dhoni’s situation. Many franchises want to discuss the possibility of increasing the number of retentions. According to the current IPL retention rules, a franchise can retain a maximum of three Indian players and two overseas players before the auction. Reports indicate that franchises want to raise this number to eight. Also, some reports suggest they would like to reintroduce the Right to Match (RTM) option, similar to what was available in 2018.
