Every Indian Cricket Team fans remember how the fortress was breached back in 2021. And now the iconic stadium’s future lies in dismay. Queensland Cricket recently signed a two-year hosting contract with Cricket Australia. This essentially means after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and Ashes, it remains to be seen if International matches will be held at the Gabba.
The Gabba will be hosting it’s 49th Test match of Ashes, when England tours the Land of Down under in 2025-26. But the hopes of reaching a 50th Test match in Ashes for Gabba can be a distant hope. Reports claim that discussion will continue about the Gabba’s availability in white ball cricket.
Reports from Australia claim that the work-life of Gabba will likely come to an end in 2030. However, with Brisbane hosting the 2032 Olympics, it remains to be seen what lies in fate of Gabba. Initial reports claimed that the venue would be rebuilt, but the plan was later dropped off.
“It is deeply disappointing that the 2026-27 Gabba Test has become a casualty of the uncertainty around the infrastructure planning and development ahead of the 2032 Olympic preparations, specifically around the Gabba. And while not being unduly alarmist, the potential outcome of this continuing uncertainty could have a significant impact on participation statewide and fan engagement across men’s and women’s cricket,” the chair of Queensland Cricket Kirsten Pike and chief executive Terry Svenson wrote.
