Keshav Maharaj already enjoyed a good outing in the Caribbean before the 2nd Test in Guyana. The South African spinner took two wickets in the 1st innings, contributing to the collapse of the West Indies batting order. It was in the 2nd innings that he struck gold yet again, bagging three wickets including the final one to close the game.

He went past Hugh Tayfield’s record of 170 wickets to become South Africa’s leading wicket-taking spinner.

Maharaj finished the game with a spell of 5/45. In Tests, the spinner has 171 wickets to his name from 52 matches so far in his career. He made his Test debut in 2016 against Australia.

I pride myself on Test cricket. Just staying loyal to the game. Bavuma allows me to read the game,” Keshav Maharaj said after winning the Player of the Series award.
