The five-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can retain MS Dhoni for less money as compared to Dhoni’s current IPL salary. According to the proposed IPL Player Retention Rules, any individual who has retired from international cricket for more than five years will be treated as an uncapped player.
To note, MS Dhoni announced his international retirement on August 15, 2019, and has completed five years post-retirement. That means the five-time IPL-winning captain will not cost too much for the CSK camp.
As per the last IPL retention rules, an uncapped player could be retained for Rs 4 crore. In 2022, Dhoni was retained for Rs 12 crore.
Will MS Dhoni play IPL 2025?
After a heart-break in the last season, CSK veteran remained silent on his retirement. With CSK demanding changes in the retention rules, it is certain that MS wishes to play at least one more season.
Earlier, speaking in a talk show, Dhoni said, “There is a lot of time for it; we have to see what decision they take on player retention, etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalized, I will take a call, but it needs to be in the best interest of the team.
