What's next for Bangladesh Cricket Board? BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon ready to quit position as BCB President after fleeing country

The Bangladesh Cricket Board continues to be in a state of dilemma. Reports claim that BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon has informed one of the board directors that he is keen in resigning from his post. The BCB has been in a state of crisis since the fall of their government.

Many of the officials have been reportedly missing while reports claim that Nazmul Hassan Papon is has fled from his country to London. Reports from Bangladesh claim that the board directors have managed to establish contract with the BCB president. It has been further learned that Nazmul Hassan is ready to leave his post.

“I have heard that Papon bhai told one of our directors that he wants to cooperate. I have not talked to the BCB president directly. I have only heard that he is ready to cooperate but haven’t heard of resigning,” a BCB director told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity.

Currently the BCB are looking to form an ad-hoc committee. This comes after Asif Mahmud as asked the BCB officials to appoint an interim head under the ICC.

“What would be best is that if a guideline comes from the interim government that’s in our constitution and within ICC’s legal framework, it would be good for us,” a BCB director told The Daily Star.

How can BCB President resign?

As per the powers vested upon the BCB President aligned with the BCB constitution, the board officials can’t call for a meeting. Only the President and Vice President holds the power for the same. With no vice presidents at the BCB, the only way Nazmul Hassan Papon can resign is if he speaks with the BCB CEO claiming that he wants to resign.

Following which the President can then call for a meeting where the decision of hos resignation will be discussed. As per the laws, should the president himself resign, then elections will be needed to take place.
