Devon Conway, Finn Allen turn down New Zealand central contracts for Franchise cricket

New Zealand Central Contract: Franchise cricket over central contract sees Devon Conway & Finn Allen taking up casual contracts

New Zealand ace stars Devon Conway and Finn Allen has turned down New Zealand Central Contracts. The reason – the duo want to look for franchise cricket options. Conway has reportedly followed suit like Kane Williamson by signing a casual contract.

This means the southpaw will be available for International matches for the Blacks save in January, where he will take part in SA20. The duo are likely to be available for the Black Caps in case-by-case basis. While Conway will be taking part in SA20, Finn Allen on the other hand is likely to feature in the Big Bash League.

“Firstly, I’d like to thank New Zealand Cricket for their support through this process. The decision to move away from a central playing contract isn’t one I’ve taken lightly, but I believe it is the best for me and my family at this present time. Playing for the Blackcaps is still the pinnacle for me and I’m hugely passionate about representing New Zealand and winning games of international cricket,” Devon Conway said.

“I’m excited to be part of the upcoming Test squads for an important period in the ICC World Test Championship cycle and am looking forward to being involved in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next February if selected,” Conway added.

Franchise Cricket over Central Contract

As has been the recent trend nowadays, cricketers all over the world are denying taking up central contracts. The reason – they want to play more franchise cricket. While some blatantly refuse, others take up casual contracts, as has been the recent case with Kane Williamson.

And now the two ace batters have also followed suit. They have now joined the likes of Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne to move away from the central contract system.
