Bangladesh’s internal turmoil continues. The current youth and sports advisor of the interim government, i.e. Asif Mahmud as asked the BCB officials to appoint an interim head under the ICC. After the fall of the previous government, the BCB president Nazmul Hasan and other officials are missing.
As per the ICC rules, the interim government can elect an ad-hoc committee whose sole purpose will be to run the BCB. However, this would be the case if the elections are held at a later date. But as per the rules, the government doesn’t have any interference on the working of the BCB.
New Interim head for BCB?
As things are going with the BCB, the board is still being run by Nazmul Hasan since he is yet to officially resign from his post. But it is expected that a new board needs to be setup after the previous officials have reportedly fled from the country. And thus Asif Mahmud has asked the BCB to appoint a temporary head for the apex body.
“The BCB president is missing. Of course, for a federation to work, all of its organs need to work. President holds an important responsibility and he is absent. But BCB is an autonomous federation and we cannot give them any decision. We can give and take suggestion from BCB,” Asif told the media.
“We have suggested that the directors of the BCB [should] look at how to resolve the issue within the ICC’s legal framework. They will report to us later on whether to appoint someone for an interim period. We will continue the process in this regard,” he concluded.
