The Gujarat Titans (GT) became the IPL sensation that stormed into the league and clinched the title in their debut season. However, they now find themselves at a critical juncture. The departure of their charismatic captain, Hardik Pandya, to the Mumbai Indians (MI) has sent ripples through the entire IPL. But, now the uncertainty extends beyond the playing field, with head coach Ashish Nehra might be on his way out due to a possible ownership change.
Ashish Nehra no more GT coach?
The architect of the Titans’ success, coach Ashish Nehra, is reportedly on shaky ground, as per Cricbuzz. With CVC Capital, the team’s owners, exploring a potential overhaul, the future of the coaching staff hangs in the balance. This is a similar news that we reported earlier as well. While the team’s initial triumphs under Nehra, Vikram Solanki (Director of GT), and Gary Kirsten (now with the Pakistan team) have been undeniable, a change in ownership might be the biggest reasons of this overhaul.
While Solanki seems to have a stronger foothold, the head coach role is far from secure. There have been various reports as well that it might be Yuvraj Singh to take over from Nehra as the GT head coach
Rumors of a potential takeover by either Torrent Pharma or the Adani Group have been going around. However, the mandatory three-year lock-in period for franchise shares means that any change in ownership is unlikely to occur before February 2025. This means the current management will steer the ship through at least one more season, including the crucial player auction slated for December.
