Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat’s Paris Olympic journey to gold medal came to an abrupt end with a comprehensive 10-0 defeat against Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the semifinals of 57kg.
Higuchi, a seasoned campaigner with a 2016 Rio Olympic silver medal and multiple world championship titles, proved too strong for the young Indian.
The defeat doesn’t mean end to Aman Sehrawat’s Olympic campaign, as he will play in repechage for bronze medal match on August 9 now.
Aman Sehrawat crushed by Higuchi
Aman Sehrawat suffered a humiliating 10-0 defeat against Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the Olympic semifinals. Higuchi’s aggressive and dominant performance left the Indian wrestler with no chance to compete. The Japanese grappler’s superior technique and power were evident throughout the match, as he swiftly secured a victory by technical superiority.
Despite the crushing defeat, Aman Sehrawat still has an opportunity to win a bronze medal. He will face the winner of the repechage round in the bronze medal match.
The Indian wrestler will be aiming to bounce back from this setback and secure a podium finish for India.
