Why KL Rahul is not playing in 3rd ODI vs Sri Lanka

With India playing their do-or-die match at the R. Premadasa Stadium, the Men in Blue have made a subtle change. But why? Why is the big man KL Rahul out of the team?

It’s now or never for India as the Indian cricket team plays their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. After a clean sweep in the T20Is, the ODI matches have been a bit rough for Rohit Sharma and his team. The first game was thrilling and ended in a tie, while the second game, which almost went India’s way, was snatched away by Jeffrey Vandersay, who took six wickets, including those of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul.

In the third ODI, India made some changes, and the big news is that KL Rahul is not playing today. This decision has shocked Indian cricket fans, who were expecting Rahul to play, especially as he was making his comeback after the South Africa tour. The question remains: why is KL Rahul not playing?

Why KL Rahul is not playing

Rahul, who has contributed a total of 31 runs across the two games, including a duck in the last match, has been replaced by Rishabh Pant. Rahul, known for his ability to build innings and push the game forward so that finishers can capitalize, had a particularly slow start, especially in the first game. This performance has not impressed the management, leading to his omission from the third ODI.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold, as there are many home games coming up. India will need to decide between these two wicketkeepers, and it will be important to determine who secures a permanent spot in the playing XI, especially with the Champions Trophy coming up next year.
