Pakistan players to undergo multiple fitness tests ahead of ‘uncertain’ Bangladesh Test series

Bangladesh A side were set to travel to Pakistan, but due to domestic turmoil, they have decided to cancel that.

Despite uncertainty over Bangladesh traveling to Pakistan for a 2-match test series, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to organize multiple fitness tests for players in the reckoning to participate in the series. This will include centrally contracted players as well.

For the unaware, there is political unrest going on in Bangladesh, and right now it’s unsure whether they’ll travel to Pakistan for the series starting August 21 and host the Women’s T20 World Cup, which commences on October 3. The Bangladesh A side was set to travel to Pakistan ahead of the Test series, but that has already been delayed.

PCB central contracts on the line

Despite all of these issues, the PCB will organize fitness tests. According to Geo News, players will gather on August 9 and undergo five to six different fitness tests. A directive was issued last month by Pakistan Cricket following their T20 World Cup exit, in which selection criteria prioritized fitness on a similar level as batting or bowling performance.

The fitness tests hold much greater significance. The PCB is holding the central contracts for now, waiting for the players to pass the fitness tests. If the previously contracted central players fail to make the mark, their contracts might not be renewed.
