Manika Batra stars as Indian Team reaches Olympics Quarter-finals, shocks Romania 3-2

The Indian women’s table tennis team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Romania in their opening encounter of the women’s team event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The squad, consisting of Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, Archana Kamath, and Ayhika Mukherjee, showcased exceptional skill and resilience to clinch the win against the fourth-seeded Romanian team.

Manika Batra emerged as the hero of the match, securing the victory for India in the deciding game. Batra won her match against Adina Diaconu with a straight-sets victory of 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-9), displaying her prowess and composure under pressure.

Despite a couple of nervy moments, such as when she was down 5-8 in the second game, Batra fought back to clinch the win, much to the delight of her teammates and supporters.

The tie featured several tense moments, particularly when Sreeja Akula lost the third match, allowing Romania to force a deciding fifth match by defeating Archana Kamath.
