England’s selection panel has announced a 14-player squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on August 21 at Emirates Old Trafford. The squad has undergone changes due to injuries Zak Crawley and Dillon Pennington.
Crawly injured, Cox gets maiden Test call-up
Crawley, who suffered a fractured little finger while fielding in the recent Test series against the West Indies, will be replaced by the uncapped Jordan Cox. The 23-year-old Essex batter has impressed with his performances this season, amassing 763 runs at an average of 69.36, including three centuries. Cox, who previously toured Pakistan with the limited-overs squad in 2022, is expected to serve as England’s back-up batter for the series.
In place of the injured Pennington, England has recalled Mark Stone to the Test squad. Stone, who last represented England in 2021, has been sidelined due to persistent injuries. Despite a modest domestic season, his ability to generate genuine pace has earned him a recall.
