In a massive setback for the Sri Lankan cricket team, star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against India due to an injury. The news comes as a major blow to the hosts, who were already reeling from the absence of key pacers Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka.
Hasaranga out due to hamstring injury
Hasaranga had been in exceptional form, playing a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s near-upset in the first ODI. His three wickets and quickfire 24 runs proved invaluable to the Lankan lions. However, a hamstring injury has proved to be a thorn in his fitness. The star all-rounder would’ve loved to contribute once again in the second ODI.
He underwent a MRI scan on Saturday, but the results weren’t what Sri Lanka hoped for. Jeffrey Vandersay would be an ideal replacement for Hasaranga.
The nature of Hasaranga’s injury has not been disclosed, and the extent of his absence remains unclear. Sri Lanka will be hoping for a speedy recovery for their star player as they look to salvage the series.
