India misses bronze as Ankita-Dhiraj lose to USA in medal match at Paris Olympics

The Indian duo lost to USA in a four set match by 2-6.

In a challenging bronze medal match, Indian archers Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara fell short against the USA’s Brady Ellison and Casey Kaufhold. They lost the mixed archery event’s bronze medal match at the Paris Olympics. After taking the lead in the first set, they lost three consecutive sets, ultimately falling 37-38, 35-37, 38-34, 35-37 (2-6).

India’s semifinal match

Earlier, Indian archers lost the semifinal match to the South Korean pair of Lim Si-hyeon and Kim Woo-jin in four sets by 2-6. Despite the loss, they still have a chance to win a medal for India at Paris Olympics. They will face USA in the bronze medal match shortly.

The Indians started well, winning the first set 36-38. However, the Koreans made a comeback by winning the second set 38-35, following Ankita’s shots of 8 and 9, and Dhiraj’s shots of 9 and 9.

The third set was very intense. Ankita started with a shot that was on the line between 9 and 10 and was given a 9, and she ended with a 10. Dhiraj scored 9 and 8, totaling 36 points. Korea’s Woojin scored 10 and 10, while Sihyeon scored 9 and 9, making a total of 38 points.

In the deciding set, Korea pulled ahead, scoring 39 points, while India lagged behind with 38 points.

Quarterfinal win

Earlier, Bhakat and Bommadevara reached the semi-finals for the first time by defeating Spain’s Elia Canales and Pablo Acha Gonzalez 5-3 (38-37, 38-38, 36-37, 37-36) in their quarter-final match.
