Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty crash out of Badminton doubles quarterfinals at Paris Olympics

A victory in this quarterfinal potentially set the Malaysian pair against the tournament's top seeds of China, Liang and Wang.

India’s dream of a badminton medal at the Paris Olympics came to an end as the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the quarterfinals. The Indians fought valiantly against Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh, but ultimately fell short in a closely contested match.

The Indian duo suffered defeated against Malaysia’s Aaron Chia/Wooi Yik Soh (Malaysia) in Men’s Doubles Quarterfinals by 21-13, 14-21, 16-21.

Despite the loss, Rankireddy and Shetty’s journey to the quarterfinals is a significant achievement for Indian badminton. The duo’s performances have captured the nation’s imagination and inspired a new generation of badminton players.

Indians vs Malaysians

Rankireddy and Shetty have previously faced several defeats against Chia and Soh but secured their first victory against the Malaysians at the Indonesia Open Super 1000 final last year, followed by wins at the 2022 Asian Games individual event and the India Open.

Elsewhere in the tournament, the second half of the draw features a match between the second-seeded Danish pair of Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen and the fourth-seeded Korean team of Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae.

Malaysians vs Chinese Top-seed next

A victory in this quarterfinals potentially set the Malaysian pair against the tournament’s top seeds of China, Liang and Wang, provided they overcome the Indonesian team of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in their quarterfinal match.
