Who is Swapnil Kusale, India’s third shooter on Paris Olympics podium?

Swapnil Kusale clinched the bronze medal for India in the men’s 50m rifle three positions final on Thursday. He is the third Indian athlete to win a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, with all three bronze medals coming from shooters.

Swapnil claimed the bronze medal with a score of 451.4 as he steadily moved up to secure the third spot.

Who is Swapnil Kusale?

Kusale was born into a farming family. His father registered him in Krida Prabhodini, the Maharashtra government’s main sports programme, in 2009. Kusale had to select one activity after a year of intense physical preparation, and he ultimately decided on shooting. Lakshya Sports has been his sponsor since 2013.

Swapnil Kusale’s past achievements

The Olympics bronze medalist first tasted the glory on Junior Asian Shooting Championships 2015 where he won the gold medal. The young shooter has also defeated Indian Olympaid Gagan Narang in the 59th National Shooting Championship.

He qualified for the Indian team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in the 50m rifle three positions event on May 17, 2024, having participated in the final Olympic trials at the MP State Shooting Academy Ranges in Bhopal. He secured an Olympic quota in the men’s 50-meter rifle 3-position event earlier in 2022 by finishing fourth at the World championship held in Cairo, Egypt, on October 22.
