India’s 62nd-ranked Swapnil Kushale outshines 23rd-ranked Aishwarya Pratap to enter 50m 3P rifle finals at Paris Olympics

Swapnil Kusale has advanced to the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Final. Meanwhile, Aishwarya Pratap fell short, ending up 11th.

Aishwarya Pratap Singh, who holds a world ranking of 23 and was a medal hopeful for India, had a disappointing performance. After winning three medals at the Asian Games last year, he was expected to excel in the Olympics. However, he finished 11th in the Men’s 50m rifle Three Positions with 589 points.

In contrast, Swapnil Kushale, who was ranked 62nd in the world and not expected to qualify for the finals, exceeded expectations by securing a spot in the finals. He finished in 7th place with 590 points.

The finals for this event will be held tomorrow, August 1, 2024.

Swapnil started well

It was Swapnil Kushale who started well in the kneeling round, impressively scoring three straight 10s in his initial series. Although he scored a 9 in the fourth shot, he quickly regained momentum, finishing the series with six consecutive 10s. He continued his strong performance in the second series with a score of 99, ending the kneeling round in 5th place.

Aishwarya Pratap, on the other hand, struggled in the first series of the kneeling round, recording a few 9s and a total of 98 points. His second series saw an improvement with a score of 99, but he remained outside the top 10 as the competition intensified.

Prone Round: Aishwarya shines, Swapnil slips

In the prone round, the roles were reversed as Aishwarya Pratap demonstrated his skill with a perfect score of 100 in the first series. His second series was nearly flawless, with only a single 9 among his shots. Swapnil Kushale, however, struggled with two 9s in his first series and a score of 99 in the second, placing him in 10th position as the competition moved to the standing round. Aishwarya was initially in 6th place but fell to 8th due to inconsistencies.

Standing Round: Swapnil climbs, Aishwarya goes down

Aishwarya started the standing round with a 10, while Swapnil scored a 9 in his first series. Despite this, Aishwarya’s performance declined as he hit two additional 9s, causing him to drop out of the top 8. In contrast, Swapnil found his rhythm, scoring seven consecutive 10s and moving into 8th place. Aishwarya continued to struggle, adding a third 9 to his tally.

Swapnil’s initial standing series ended with a 9, resulting in 98 points, but he quickly rebounded in the second series with four 10s, moving into the top 5. Meanwhile, Aishwarya’s performance continued to deteriorate.

With his strong finish in the final series with three 10s, Swapnil Kushale qualified for the finals. On the other hand, Aishwarya’s hopes dashed for the finals.
