Pakistan might gain some leverage in the upcoming months with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi set to become the next Asia Cricket Council president. Naqvi will succeed incumbent president Jay Shah later this year as per the rotation policy. The move could see Pakistan gain momentum in the Asian cricketing circle where India remains dominant in matters of scheduling events.
Pakistan’s Naqvi to become next ACC president
India’s unwillingness to travel to Pakistan due to geopolitical tensions is expected to take center stage once Naqvi takes over. The BCCI has already hinted at not wanting to travel to the neighbouring country for the Champions Trophy 2025.
“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm Naqvi will the next president for a two-year term.” a source said, as per The Hindu.
“When Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over,” the source added.
Pakistan’s threats to India amid CT 2025 debate
While Pakistan has threated to skip the 2026 World Cup and has demanded a written proof from the BCCI, it remains to be seen what decision the ICC would take with respect to Champions Trophy 2025.
CT 2025 will be held between February and March, with three Pakistan cities set to host the marquee event. India and Pakistan, for nearly a decade now, have met only at ICC events and haven’t locked horns in a bilateral series.
