Rohit Sharma & Shreyas Iyer leave for Sri Lanka ODI series, Virat Kohli to join soon

Rohit, Kohli, and Shreyas haven't played 50-over cricket since last year, and with just 6 ODIs scheduled before the Champions Trophy, their presence in Sri Lanka is a must.

Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer have made their way to Sri Lanka for the upcoming 3-match ODI series starting on August 2. The India cricket team captain was on vacation and had returned to Mumbai just days following Gautam Gambhir’s decision to have him and Virat Kohli in the ODI side.

Rohit Sharma & Shreyas Iyer jet off, Kohli left.

Nine of India’s 15-member ODI squad are already present in Sri Lanka. KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav joined the team a few hours ago, and with Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer also making way, just two players haven’t made it to the island. Harshit Rana and Virat Kohli will join the team soon enough, as 5 days remain until the series starts.

Perfect chance to prepare for Champions Trophy 2025

According to India’s Future Tour Programs (FTP), the Men in Blue are scheduled to play just 6 ODIs before the Champions Trophy 2025 starts in late February. Irrespective of the decision to travel to Pakistan for the ICC event, the fact remains that six matches aren’t enough to prepare for a big tournament like this. So, Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma must be on the same page when it comes to finding a balanced XI and fielding the players who are certain to start when the tournament starts in about 7 months’ time.
