Joe Root inches closer to Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record, completes 12000 Test runs

Joe Root has created history by becoming only the 7th Englishman to score 12,000 runs.

When Sachin Tendulkar retired from Test cricket, nobody would’ve believed that any player would surpass the great man’s heroic tally of 15,921 runs in the format. But now, there is a guy named Joseph Edward Root or better known as Joe Root can eclipse the all-time record.

Joe Root clinches 12000-run mark

The former English skipper has recently gone past the 12,000 Test runs mark. It has come against the same team against whom Tendulkar hung up his boots, the West Indies. In the ongoing third Test against WI, Root not only get to his fifty but bailed the hosts out a precarious situation. Chasing the visitors’ 282 score, England were 54-4 and Root kept his wicket intact. When he was at 27, Root went past Brian Lara’s tally of 11,953 runs. And now, the Yorkshireman has breached the 12,000-run mark, thus becoming only the second Englishmen after Alastair Cook and the seventh overall.

Root to go past Tendulkar’s total

Among current batters, Root is possibly the one who can do the unthinkable – breach the Sachin Tendulkar’s tally in Tests. At 33 years old, Root is the most dependable English player. If he plays around 10 Tests for lets say 4 more years, there are 40 more Tests in him. With Root just around 4000 runs away from Tendulkar, he can easily breach the all-time landmark.
