Paris Olympics 2024 medals tally: China wins two golds to go on top, South Korea at second

China leads the Paris 2024 medal tally with two golds. Kazakhstan won the first medal, while the USA and Korea each hold a silver.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are well underway, and the medal tally is starting to fill up with the world’s top athletes competing for glory.

The excitement is increasing as the medal tally has already begun to open up. Kazakhstan became the first country to win a medal at the Paris Olympics, beating Germany in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event in shooting. Later on, in the same event, China clinched the first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics, setting the tone for their dominant performance at the Games.

Powerhouses of the Olympics

Traditionally, the USA and China have been dominant forces in the Olympic medal tallies, often finishing at the top. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the USA led the final medal tally, followed closely by China and Japan.

As of now, in the Paris Olympics 2024, China leads the medal tally with two gold medals. Meanwhile, Korea and the USA are in second place with one silver each.

India’s position in the Olympics medal tally

India, which finished with a historic seven medals in Tokyo, including a gold in the javelin throw by Neeraj Chopra, is aiming to improve its standing in the Paris Olympics.

India has won six medals, one silver and five bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Manu Bhaker won the first medal for India in the 10m pistol event, where she bagged a bronze. She then made history by becoming the first Indian to win two medals at a single edition of the Olympics after clinching a mixed team 10m air pistol bronze with Sarabjot Singh. The surprise came when Swapnil Kushale won bronze in the men’s 50m rifle event. Now, another name has been added: Aman Sherawat, who defeated his opponent in the 57kg wrestling category to secure a bronze.
