Is the Indian men’s team in the 4x400m relay finals at the Paris Olympics?

According to a few social media users, the Indian men's 4x400m relay team is in the finals of the Paris Olympics! But is that possible?

The Paris Olympics opening ceremony concluded with a bang, although there were a few hiccups that became a topic of discussion. Overall, things went well, but given the scale of the competition, there has been a lot of misinformation circulating on social media. A recent example is when social media users began congratulating the men’s 4×400 relay team for making it to the final. However, how is this possible? Is the event done at the Paris Olympics 2024?

Indian men’s 4x400m relay team in the finals of the Olympics 2024?

Well, for now, it is absolutely not possible for them to have qualified, as the event has not yet happened, the round 1 is scheduled to start from August 9th. If this is the case, why is it going viral, and how did it come into the limelight? It gained attention when former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, also known as Crane Bedi, posted a video claiming that the Indian men’s 4x400m relay team defeated the USA team and set a national record. However, this information is completely false.

Old video of the World Athletics Championships goes viral

As mentioned, the information is completely false. So how did this video become a topic of discussion? The video is actually from last year’s World Athletics Championships held in Budapest in August, where the Indian men’s relay team broke the Asian record with a time of 2 minutes 59.05 seconds. Now, this video is going viral around the time of the Olympics, spreading misinformation.

The video clearly shows that the Indian men’s relay team passed Great Britain and Japan and came close to defeating the USA, ultimately securing second place and qualifying for the final round of the World Athletics Championships. And this does not mean they qualified for the finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
