Bumrah backs bowlers to be better captains than batters, reveals India captaincy aspirations

Jasprit Bumrah has asserted that he will continue to rate bowlers higher than the batters, citing the importance of what they can deliver

Veteran India cricket team pacer Jasprit Bumrah reckons bowlers make better captains than batters. The fiery bowler’s remarks come amid reports of Shubman Gill replacing the former as India’s new Test vice-captain. Bumrah also opened up on his aspirations to lead India in Tests and admitted that while he desires to do so, the matter isn’t in his hands.

Bumrah settles batters vs bowlers for captain debate

“I think leadership requires you to be brave. So I am also always of the opinion that we see whenever we’ve seen Pat Cummins doing really well. When I was young I have seen Wasim Akram being the captain. Kapil Dev has won the World Cup for India. Imran Khan has won a World Cup for Pakistan. So bowlers are the smart ones,” Bumrah told the Indian Express.

‘Not in my power’: Bumrah on Test captaincy

That is something that I don’t decide I cannot go to you know the team and say now you have to make me Captain. I don’t have that much power and it is above my paygrade,” Bumrah said.

Unmatchable Bumrah

Among current players, no one can match the skills and excellence of Bumrah. He claimed 15 wickets at an impressive average of 8.26 and an astonishing economy rate of 4.17 in the T20 WC. He joined Virat Kohli as one of the Indian players to win the Men’s T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament award.
