DRS July 27: Sanju Samson the one man army & Suryakumar Yadav to copy Rohit Sharma’s formula in IND vs SL

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

The Indian women’s team steamrolled past a hapless Bangladesh unit in the Women’s Asia Cup semi-final. A complete bowling performance saw them skittle the Bangladeshi unit for a paltry 80. Then it was all formality, with Smriti Mandhana guiding India to a 10-wicket win with a fifty. In men’s cricket, however, the buzz for the upcoming India vs Sri Lanka series is at all-time high. New captain Suryakumar Yadav addressed a press conference, and the team had an optional training session, which was, incidentally only attended by Sanju Samson.

Sanju Samson the only Indian in practice?

Sanju Samson is determined to make the most of his T20I opportunity after being overlooked for the ODI squad despite a recent century. The Kerala wicket-keeper was the lone Indian cricketer to attend the optional practice session on the even of the first T20I against Sri Lanka. While the rest of the team enjoyed a fun fielding drill the previous day, Samson’s focus was evident as he even interacted with fans at the stadium.

Suryakumar to copy Rohit’s formula?

Suryakumar Yadav captains India for the first time as a first-choice T20I leader against Sri Lanka on July 27. He credits Rohit Sharma, the former T20I captain and Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate, for his leadership style. During the pre-match press conference, SKY admired Rohit’s ability to lead both on and off the field, emphasizing the difference between being a captain and a leader. He learned valuable lessons from Rohit about T20 cricket and tournament victories, including the most recent T20 World Cup 2024.

Jasprit Bumrah on Pandya-Rohit MI row

Jasprit Bumrah has broken his silence on the Rohit-Hardik captaincy row in IPL 2024. He revealed that the team supported Hardik Pandya, but faced opposition from the outside world, making it “Mumbai Indians vs the world“. Despite being trolled and booed, the team stood by Hardik, with Bumrah saying, “We cannot leave a man behind…it’s us against the world.” He emphasized the team’s unity and efforts to help Hardik, who replaced Rohit Sharma as skipper.

India vs Sri Lanka in Women’s Asia Cup Final 2024

India cruised into the Women’s Asia Cup final with a dominant 10-wicket win over Bangladesh. Renuka Singh’s lethal bowling (3/10) restricted Bangladesh to a paltry 80. Smriti Mandhana (55*) and Shafali Verma (26*) then toyed with the Bangladeshi bowlers, securing a comfortable victory. Unfortunately for IND vs PAK fans, Pakistan women’s failed to beat Sri Lanka in their semi-final. It will be India vs Sri Lanka now in the Women’s Asia Cup Final.

Morne Morkel confirmed India bowling coach?

It looks like the confirmation of Morne Morkel being India’s bowling coach is just around the corner. Insidesport has learnt that his contract with current employers, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will not get extended. This is a clear enough indication that the Protea pacer is heading towards the role of Team India’s bowling coach. Sairaj Bahutule is currently the interim bowling coach for the series against Sri Lanka.

No hard feelings by Hardik to Suryakumar

Hardik Pandya was the odds-on favorite to captain India’s T20I team. However, fate intervened as Suryakumar Yadav was unexpectedly chosen before the Sri Lankan series. Despite the potential for disappointment, Pandya has exhibited remarkable sportsmanship. In fact, their camaraderie was evident during recent training session, where they engaged in friendly competition under fielding coach T Dilip’s guidance.
