While the opening ceremony is a prestigious event, the primary focus for the Indian athletes is on their respective competitions.

India’s contingent for the Paris Olympics opening ceremony will consist of 78 athletes and officials from 12 different sports. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has prioritized athletes currently in France for the ceremony, prioritizing competition over the event.

Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Vinesh Phogat absent

High-profile athletes like Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, and Vinesh Phogat will be absent from the opening ceremony due to their competition schedules.

Neeraj Chopra and Mirabai Chanu are yet to arrive in Paris, while Vinesh Phogat’s wrestling events are scheduled to commence soon.

Indians at Opening ceremony

Despite the absence of some star athletes, India will be represented by a strong contingent at the opening ceremony. Badminton star PV Sindhu and table tennis legend Sharath Kamal will serve as the flag-bearers, leading the Indian team.

The Indian contingent includes athletes from various disciplines, showcasing the breadth of India’s sporting talent. The team comprises representatives from archery, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis.

While the opening ceremony is a prestigious event, the primary focus for the Indian athletes is on their respective competitions. The IOA’s decision to prioritize athlete availability for the ceremony demonstrates its commitment to maximizing the team’s performance at the Paris Olympics.

Table Tennis: Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra
