IND vs SL: Suryakumar Yadav ready to ’emulate’ Rohit Sharma, says ‘not much has changed in team’

IND vs SL: Team India is going to play their first T20I series after the official retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.

As India begins their limited-over series against Sri Lanka on July 27, it will be a new beginning for Suryakumar Yadav, who has taken over the reigns of the T20I team from Rohit Sharma, after the latter took them to a T20 World Cup win last month. It is not like, Surya, as he is known in cricketing circles, hasn’t led the Indian team before, but it will certainly be his first time as a regular skipper.

Suryakumar Yadav Wants to Emulate Rohit

Attending the press conference on the eve of the first IND vs SL match, Suryakumar Yadav was quick to point out, that not a lot has changed in this team, from the one under Rohit Sharma, who retired from the format after winning the trophy for the country, along with Virat Kohli. He said, “Not much has changed in this team. Only captain has changed. Rohit was more of a leader than captain and that is what I would like to emulate.”

Learnt From Rohit Sharma

Suryakumar, who plays regularly with Rohit for Mumbai Indians in the IPL as well, went on to say that he learned his leadership skills from Rohit. The latter has won five IPL titles since 2013. On the other hand, SKY too has captained India in T20Is on a few occasions. In the seven matches he has captained Team India, they have emerged victorious in five of those.
