Rahul Dravid's son is an 18-year-old all-rounder, who has previously won the Cooch Behar Trophy as well.

It was less than three months ago when one Dravid called time on his coaching career, and now another one has bagged his first franchise contract, taking his initial steps in professional cricket. In a development that has caught the attention, Samit Dravid, the son of former Indian captain and head coach Rahul Dravid, has secured his first T20 franchise cricket contract at the Shriram Capital Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 auction.

Rahul Dravid’s son picked for Rs 50K

The 18-year-old, who is a pace-bowling all-rounder, was picked up by last season’s runners-up, Mysuru Warrior Maharaja KSCA T20 auction held in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Dravid (Jnr), a promising talent who can contribute with both bat and ball, was a key member of the Karnataka Under-19 team that clinched the 2023-24 Cooch Behar Trophy. He gained further experience when he represented KSCA XI in a three-day match against Lancashire. He will be captained under veteran Karun Nair.

Power-packed auction, head by LR Chethan

The Maharaja Trophy auction witnessed considerable interest, with several big names going under the hammer. Karun Nair retained his captaincy for Mysuru Warriors and the team further bolstered its squad by acquiring all-rounders K Gowtham and J Suchith. Meanwhile, injured pacer Prasidh Krishna was also picked up by the Warriors.

The auction saw a competitive bidding war for wicketkeeper-batter LR Chethan, who eventually fetched a hefty price of INR 8.2 lakh to join Bengaluru Blasters. Chethan was the most expensive player at the auction.

The 2024 edition of the Maharaja Trophy is scheduled to be held from September 15 to October 1, with all matches taking place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
