The women’s archery competition at the Paris Olympics has got off to a spectacular start, with South Korea setting new world records and asserting their dominance in the sport.
South Korea record-breaking performance at Paris Olympics
Lim Sihyeon of South Korea has rewritten the history books with a stunning world record in the individual ranking round, scoring an incredible 694 out of a possible 720. This surpasses the previous Olympic record held by her compatriot An San and the world record set by Kang Chaeyoung.
The South Korean dominance extended to the team event, where they also broke their own Olympic record with a combined score of 2046. Lim Sihyeon and Nam Suhyeon claimed the top two spots in the individual rankings, showcasing the depth of talent in the South Korean team.
India’s path to Paris 2024 semifinals
India’s women’s archery team has qualified for the quarterfinals after finishing fourth in the team rankings. While this is a commendable achievement, the draw has pitted them against potential powerhouse South Korea in the semifinals.
Ankita Bhakat, making her Olympic debut, impressed with an 11th-place finish in the individual ranking round, contributing significantly to the team’s overall performance. Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur also played their part, but the team will need to be at their best to overcome the formidable challenge posed by South Korea.
With the South Korean archers seemingly in a league of their own, India’s journey to the podium will be arduous. However, the team’s determination and the experience of Deepika Kumari will be crucial in their quest for a medal.
The road to the semifinals will be challenging, with India facing either France or the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Regardless of the opponent, the team will need to maintain their focus and execute their shots flawlessly to progress further in the competition.
The world is watching as the best archers compete for Olympic glory. With South Korea setting the benchmark, the stage is set for thrilling matches and potential upsets.
