IPL franchises are set to meet with the BCCI at the end of the month. It was already decided that player retentions, salary caps, and Right to Match (RTM) cards will be on the agenda of the meeting, which will likely take place on July 30 or 31 at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.

The BCCI had earlier asked the franchises about what they wanted. The feedback for these questions is here. According to ESPNcricinfo, a senior official at a franchise suggested that IPL mega auctions should happen in five years instead of the current three-year window.
The reason behind it is simple. It would allow a franchise to invest in players and build better infrastructure, like academies. Naturally, a young player would take some time to develop, and due to a short period, like 3 years, a franchise may lose a player that they made big and, in return, bear no fruit from their investment.

Only captains to be retained in IPL mega auctions?
A franchise CEO suggested that teams get just one retention, their captain, and be allowed just RTMs to retain players. This will help both players and franchises, he feels. This would allow the market to determine the price for the specific player. From the player’s perspective, a young player who’s down the pecking order can take home a bigger price check.
The CEO mentioned above could be Venky Mysore. The Kolkata Knight Riders CEO had hinted at something similar during the IPL 2024 season. Talking about what Mysore had said, veteran commentator and broadcaster Harsha Bhogle said: “Venky Mysore of KKR has come up with a workable suggestion, which is that you should be allowed to retain players if they have a fair market value. So no retentions but eight Right to Match cards.”
