It’s head coach changing week, it seems. The Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, and now the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are making changes to their support staff setup before the IPL 2025 season. After ending 8th and 9th on the points table in the last two editions, PBKS has decided to change its head coach. Experienced Australian coach Trevor Bayliss is set to leave the franchise soon enough.
PBKS change head coach with IPL 2025 mega auction in mind
According to Cricbuzz, Bayliss’ contract as Punjab Kings head coach has come to an end, and they aren’t looking to extend his terms. The franchise is looking to hire an Indian as the new commander-in-chief, and right now Sanjay Bangar, the current director of cricket for the Punjab Kings, is the frontrunner and is likely to reprise his role as head coach once again.
The management didn’t seem to have any issues with Bayliss’ style of coaching, but consistently poor results despite having a strong squad have pushed the franchise to make a change. PBKS was scheduled to have a board meeting on July 22, but due to some reason, that couldn’t go through. With the IPL 2025 mega auction coming up, the franchise wants to broaden its horizons and build a better team with the aim of winning its first title.
