AFG vs NZ Test: BCCI lends helping hand! Greater Noida to host maiden One-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand

Afghanistan Cricket Team is likely to play their maiden Test match against New Zealand. And more interestingly, this ‘one off Test match’ will be held in Greater Noida’s Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex. As per reports, the match against the Kiwis is likely to take place in September.

Following which in October and November, New Zealand Cricket Team are slated to play 3-Test matches against the Indian Cricket Team. Afghanistan to play their one-off Test match in India.

BCCI Lends support to Afghanistan

Afghanistan will return to Greater Noida having last played here in March of 2020. Earlier in July, the Afghans were slated to play a series against Bangladesh including ODIs and Tests. However, the series couldn’t place due to extreme heat during the summer in the Northern region of the country.

Ever since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan back in 2021, the BCCI has always lent a helping hand to the team. “Soon after the change in Kabul in 2021, when the Taliban took over, the BCCI was the first cricket board to support Afghanistan,” a source told Times of India.

After the Taliban take over, Australia refused to play with the country owing to the non promotion and participation of female in sports. But the BCCI has now given 3 home venues to Afghanistan in India. These include Greater Noida, Kanpur and Lucknow.
