Chennai Super Kings (CSK) entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 to defend their title, which they won under MS Dhoni in his last stint as captain. Just before the start of the tournament, Dhoni stepped down as CSK captain and handed the role to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, the young right-handed batter struggled to fill the legendary captain’s shoes. For the next IPL edition, CSK management might consider replacing Gaikwad with someone who can emulate Dhoni’s playing style and leadership qualities.
Similar to IPL 2024, it is possible that Dhoni will announce his retirement from the tournament just before IPL 2025. In that case, the team would require a more experienced captain who is also a wicketkeeper-batter.
Who could be CSK captain in IPL 2025?
According to media reports, Rishabh Pant may leave Delhi Capitals as the management is unhappy with the wicketkeeper’s captaincy.

On the other hand, CSK is looking for a batter who could fill the void left by Dhoni if he opts to retire in the next edition. Pant was the first choice in international cricket when Thala retired, and this time, CSK could bring Pant into their team.
It is also possible that Pant could lead Chennai if the management decides to change the leadership role in the upcoming edition.
