Gautam Gambhir to hold 1st press-conference as India head coach before departure on July 22

Before being announced as India's head coach. Gambhir was a mentor in the IPL for three years, taking Lucknow Super Giants to the Playoffs in 2022 and 2023 and lifting the title with KKR earlier this year.

Gautam Gambhir will kick off his tenure as India’s head coach by holding a press conference before the Indian cricket team leaves for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. The two-time World Cup winner was announced as the new head coach a couple of weeks ago, but he hasn’t met up with the team or addressed the media until now.

Gambhir’s first press as India head coach

Gautam Gambhir will hold his first press conference as India’s head coach on July 22 alongside BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. According to the Times of India, the Men in Blue will leave for Sri Lanka the same day as well. Since the T20I series starts on July 27, we can expect the players in the T20 squad to leave on July 22 and members of the ODI team to join them later.

In what will be his first assignment as commander-in-chief, Gambhir is expected to have Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, and T Dilip as the fielding coach, alongside him as the support staff. There is speculation that Morne Morkel will become the bowling coach, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll travel with Team India to Sri Lanka.
