T20 hero Arshdeep Singh may debut in India vs Australia Test series Down Under: Paras Mhambrey

With more experience and honed skills, Arshdeep Singh's path to Test cricket looks promising, particularly in overseas conditions like Australia.

Arshdeep Singh’s fiery pace attack propelled India to T20 World Cup glory last month. Now, questions arise: could the young fast bowler be making his Test debut soon?

T20 Star with Test Aspirations: Arshdeep Singh

The 25-year-old left-arm pacer spearheaded India’s bowling attack in the T20 World Cup, bagging a tournament-high 17 wickets. Ecstatic after the win, Singh expressed his burning desire to represent India in Test cricket.

Conditions key for Arshdeep Singh Test inclusion

Former India head coach Paras Mhambrey weighed in on Arshdeep Singh‘s Test prospects. Mhambrey believes the conditions will play a crucial role. In swinging pitches like Australia’s, Arshdeep might find a place in a four-pronged pace attack.

However, breaking into the Test team on home soil might prove challenging.

It depends on the conditions. Maybe in Australia, if we play four seamers, he has a chance. To get one in India will be very difficult at the moment,” Mhambrey told Indian Express.

Paras Mhambrey: Control needed

Paras Mhambrey feels Singh requires additional first-class experience to refine his swing control and master the art of reverse swing, a valuable weapon in overseas conditions. He acknowledged Singh’s natural swing talent but emphasized the importance of maintaining peak fitness and honing his skills.

“I feel he just needs a little more game time in first-class cricket, just to get control over his swing and also know how to use reverse-swing, which will be very handy. He has the swing that works for him. It is about maintaining fitness and working on it. At the moment, he may not be a starter in Tests, but he isn’t far away,” Mhambrey added.

Not a India Cricket Team starter yet

Mhambrey concluded by stating that while Singh might not be an immediate Test starter, he is certainly not far off. With more experience and honed skills, Arshdeep Singh’s path to Test cricket looks promising, particularly in overseas conditions like Australia.
