Former Sri Lanka cricketer Dhammika Niroshana shot dead in his house

A former Sri Lankan cricketer, Dhammika Niroshana, was tragically shot dead in his home located in Ambalangoda last night, 16 July 2024. The shocking incident has left the cricketing community and Sri Lanka in mourning.

Dhammika Niroshana gunned down

Police confirmed that an unidentified assailant entered Niroshana’s residence and shot him while he was with his wife and two children.

Niroshana, aged 41, represented Sri Lanka at the Under-19 level, making his debut in 2000 against Singapore. He played Under-19 Test and ODI cricket for two years, even captaining the side on ten occasions.

Details of attack

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the suspect is still at large. Ambalangoda Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation to apprehend the culprit and determine the reason for this brutal crime.
